THE YEAR STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

School or no school, we are back to it.

Here we are, still slightly sunburnt, squinting into cameras on doorsteps, all shiny new shoes and too-big backpacks.

All boxfresh calculators and immaculate stationery, nervous haircuts and uncomfortable collars.

It’s blank page season. New bag season. This-is-the-year season.

Forget January. Everything starts here.

So let us begin.
TOP CREATIVE COMPANIES 2024
It’s nice, that award

This is so humbling that we can barely bring ourselves to mention it, but nevertheless, this summer we were delighted to be named one of It’s Nice That’s Top Creative Companies of 2024. The award celebrates creative businesses that are also nice places to work. So embarrassing. But thank you.
WHO TO READ NEXT
A tourist map of literature

With roughly 457 books published every single hour, choosing what to read next can be difficult. This nice visual text map gives you recommendations, based on writers you’ve enjoyed before.
THE PROBLEM WITH THE NUDGE EFFECT
Good for making you buy carrots. Bad for making you eat them.

Nudge theory has been seen as a way for governments to influence people into making better, healthier decisions. But new research sheds some doubt on whether nudges can actually make a lasting impact on our behaviour.
A VISUAL CONNECTION ENGINE
Ride the river, clear your mind

Rather than plunging your brain into the algorithmic rush hour traffic of social media, try this on your next tea break: a lateral connection engine that leads you on a gentle visual journey, based on the vibes you like.
NAMING THE STORMS
This year’s most destructive monikers

Big news in the world of naming: the Met Office’s 24/25 Storm Names list has just dropped. Here are the names that'll be knocking your bin over this year, from Ashley to Wren.
AND FINALLY, FROM THE WRITING CLUB DESKS...
UNTAMED NATURALICKS
A Writing Club name, spotted in the wild

A few months ago, Untamed Cat Food asked us to help find a name for their new product: a range of lickable treats for cats made from high quality meat, just like your cat would lick in the wild.

We're delighted to see them in the flesh!
